Hotel Online Marketing: How social are you with your hotel guest?

Social media has changed the way we connect, engage, and communicate with our guest. Staying connected with them is important to keep the relationship going even after they have left. You can encourage this relationship by asking them to follow your hotel on their favourite social media – Facebook

Inspire with useful content
Travellers use Facebook for fun, inspiration, and quite often to get useful information, so putting useful content like what’s happening in your area, how’s the weather, what are the best activities (or food) are great ways to keep them following your Facebook page.

Here are some quick tips to grow your Facebook followers:

  1. Invite your contacts Get those you already know to like your hotel’s Facebook page: Hotel staff can invite their friends to like your page too.
  2. Invite your friends If you have friends who would be interested in getting useful info about your area by staying connected to your Facebook page, invite them.
  3. Add links to everywhere Add a link to your Facebook page in your email signature, on your website, on your billboard ads, on your signage…on everything you can (legally) get your hands on.
  4. Put up signs everywhere Place signs on the front desk and on tables in the lobby inviting guests to like your hotel on Facebook. Add a link to your Facebook page on brochures, leaflets and on the bottom of receipts.
  5. Free wifi for likes Ask guest to follow your page when they ask for the wifi password. Put a “follow us on facebook” note on the wifi password stub you give out to them.
  6. Host a contest No matter what type of contest you run, always ask them to like your page in order to join, and that they are engaging or tagging with your page.
  7. Always post good quality content Follow the 80/20 rule: 80% of posts should be useful information (no selling) and only 20% of should be about the hotel promotions. Post between 4 to 5 times per week.
  8. Promote your page on other social networks If you have Instagram, Twitter,  Youtube or other social media accounts for your hotel, post a link to follow your Facebook page.
  9. Place searchable information on your Facebook page  Add important information to your profile page. Use plenty of relevant keywords that people use when searching online for your hotel.
  10. Thank you card When guest check-out, give them a thank you note (or card) Ask them to join you on Facebook, while you have their attention.

Okay that’s easy! Using Facebook in a smart way is an effective way to build an audience that is ready to book with you in the future.
